Welcome back to the Cafe'!
If you haven't visited in a while, then let me introduce myself. I'm Gary Denton, a member of the HFC and a contributing author to our group publishing project SPLIT.
I'm also famous in the group and elsewhere for my attempts to achieve something other than SECOND PLACE in a writing competition.
Second Place (Shudder).
It's not first. And as the famous Ricky Bobby once remarked, "If you ain't first- your last."
So, I wanted to stop by and undo some of that bad karma, because I finally WON something!
I officially participated in National Novel Writing Month in November and I WON!
That's right! And I have the cute little web picture to show for it.
It even has a ship on it.
I like ships.

Now, some of you may know very well that several thousand authors participated in NaNoWriMo this year, and a good portion of them also won by typing the requested fifty-thousand words in thirty-one days. Yes, that is 50,000 words in one month.
50K.
Some of them didn't make it, but a lot of them did.
And I'm one.
The Humble Fiction Cafe can boast of several NaNoWriMo winners both past and present in their ranks, and I'd like to invite them to post comments to this entry just to show off. They deserve it. It is an amazingly crazy thing to do, and an even more amazingly crazy thing to actually accomplish it.

So there. I won. I came in "Finished."

And that is better than Second any day.

Gary

Congrats! I'm impressed by anyone who succeeded at the Nanowrimo challenge this year, as I wasn't up for it myself :) That's really saying something, to write a novel in one month! The first draft of my first novel took eight!

Sheryl reporting in and to show off. I too am a NaNoWriMo 2008 winner and a member of HFC. Congratulations Gary and everyone else that participated/won this year and in year's past.

Doing NaNo separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls, the writers from the wannabees, and fierce from the faint of heart. Kudos!

I know the thrill of typing "The End" and making those 50,000 words in only 30 days! It feels great. In November of '06 I did NaNo and I remember running out the front door screaming to my husband that I'd actually finished!

And, a little side note: That story "Bring Me To Life" was published by Tease Publishing this year and is available in e-book form at All Romance e-books. So, if any of you are thinking of doing NaNo, I strongly suggest that you do. You never know what might happen after you type "The End"
